Step Four: Pack Your Bags

Mom says…

Don’t wait until the last minute to pack your clothes, toiletries and other necessities, or you’ll surely forget something!

What to Wear

Most folks dress anywhere from casual to business causal at CONEXPO-CON/AGG. Spoiler alert, I’m making my husband Trevor wear khakis. 😎

Really anything goes, but comfort is key! Now is not the time to break in a new pair of shoes. Bring several comfortable pairs of shoes for the week, as well as layers. The weather in Las Vegas in March can be cool in the morning and evenings, but warm by mid-afternoon.

  • Comfortable Shoes
Again, this is no time to be breaking in anything new. This convention is the size of a billion football fields, folks! A nice pair of sneakers, dress shoes with insoles, or a sneaker-dress shoe hybrid will do the trick. And ladies, if you must wear heels, you know the score.

  • Light Jacket or Sweatshirt
It’s easy to forget that Las Vegas is in the middle of a desert, which does in fact get kinda chilly once that infernal day star is gone. And this is coming from a Minnesotan, so…

  • Multi-purpose Items
When putting together outfits, make sure to select items that can go with multiple different other items as the temperature and time of day changes, and for when you get the jimmies to shoot some blackjack. For instance, a white t-shirt and blazer can go up and down on the dressy scale, and goes with literally everything.

What to Bring

  • ID and Passport
If you’re travelling domestically within the US, you won’t need your passport.

  • Credit Cards and Cash-ola
Don’t forget notify your your credit card companies about your travel plans so you don’t get pinged with security alerts. Cash is always good.

  • Phone and Charger
Duh. But easy to forget, as I know well!

  • Backpack
You’ll be picking up all kinds of goodies, but also think about carrying around some water.
Again… this is the desert - don’t be without it!

  • Portable Power Bank
You can pick cheap ones up at Walgreens, but you get what you pay for (they suck.)
We recommend the Anker PowerCore 10000 - get it on Amazon.

  • Pocket-able Notebook
Excellent for quick note taking and fits in any pocket.
Field Notes is the best - get it on Amazon.

  • Not-crappy Pen
Maybe you’ll be getting autographs! But more likely you’ll be taking notes on the move.
My graphic designer swears by the Pilot Precise V5 - get it on Amazon.

  • Business Cards
    Never know who you’ll meet!

  • Sunglasses
    Your eyes will thank you.

  • Sunblock
    Your skin will thank you.

  • Lip Balm
It’ll be dry, and the air will take all the moisture from you that it can.
Did we mention that this is the desert?
