Fireplace Fridays - Modern Organic

In February, we've got to highlight the best spot to spend time with the one you love, The Fireplace. Every Friday of this month I'll be highlighting mantles that make me melt.

I'm going to start with what used to be my least favorite design style, MODERN, because once the trend of ORGANIC was added to it I started to fall in love. The "organic" or as I call it "rustic" flare makes this style down to earth, soothing, and adds a much needed warmth to modern architecture.

3 Time "Builder of the Year" John Kraemer & Sons has long been a favorite builder of mine and they did not disappoint with their Lake Calhoun Artisan abode. The house was filled with modern natural stone and wood finishes all in perfect alignment. The mantle makes a statement of warmth even without a fireplace. I love the layers of color in the stone and the exposed log storage. It subtely says yes it's modern but cozy up.

This secluded lakefront oasis was drawn up by famed Charles R. Stinson and built with total craftsmanship by Hage Homes. The masonry team had quite the challenge here to make sure the stone had an "uneven" collage look on the face but lined up on the edges and corners perfectly square. The ledge is low and placed perfectly center and is a smooth finish which perfectly balances the stone. Job well done to this Sub-Contractor team!
